wall graphics
This is the 20' wall mural for Felix 55 in Rice Village being screen printed by hand, on plexiglas, at Black Swan Screen Printing. The plexiglas was divided into 4 panels with white ink on the back (frosted side), and the black ink on the front (clear side). This 2 sided technique gives the illusion of depth/dimension. The frost came into play so that we could dilute the reflection from the sunlight. Otherwise, you would have probably thought it was a window to another room when entering the restaurant, lol.
I went with the type of imagery you see below (more photos coming) after speaking with the head chef. He stated the menu was influenced from all over the world (not just one particular place). The walls and furniture colors had been done already in rustic tones. The interior lines were sharp and everything had a square concept...even the plates and silverware. The architect really pushed for the most elegant environment possible. They wanted the restaurant to have a diverse day time crowd mixed with younger night time drinking customers. The artwork needed to fit in no matter who the customer was...Not offensive to families but edgy enough to create some entertainment for the evenings. I ended up going with something that was simple, sexy, but still had some masculinity to it. I felt the artistic style followed the menu with influences from all over that you really couldn't peg down to one thing. The end result (photos are coming!) is an abstract illustration of a women's face with a ruby on her forehead and hair blowing across her face.
Again, I hope at some point to get some proper photos of the artwork on the actual wall within the restaurant environment. Below you can still see the process of the screen printing being done with descriptions below each.

Side view of the ruby (on forehead) being screened up top with the corner of an eye showing.

Each panel had between 5-7 screens stitched together to make up full image (here showing very early on).

Larger section of the panel being inked.

This is before the protective paper was removed from the other side of plexi.

This shows with out protective paper on plexi. Things are coming along here.

Another panel coming along.

You can sort of tell how the black is on one side and the white is on the other, but you can't really see the depth/illusion of the final product yet. Here shows the clear side of the plexi.

Again, can't really see what's going on but showing here the frosted side of a single panel.
More photos coming of the finished product! Promise!
